Printed Pants

printed pants, pants, cotton

Sweater: Thrifted
Pants: Selfmade
Flats: Aldo

These pants are from a pants pattern I drafted in my quest for the perfect pants pattern. The fabric is from Fabricland, I had to get it the print is amazing. That's what I told myself when I bought it and I was thinking about the other fabric I had sitting at home. Although I really didn't have anything in a weight I wanted to use for pants so there.

P.S.

The white spots on my sweater are snow flakes.

Leather at Last

leather, leggings,

green, leather, pants

zippers, zipper pants

Jacket: Suzy Shier
Earrings: F21
Leather leggings: Selfmade
Shoes: Aldo

I finished these pants a while back and have finally taken photos! I made another pair of these for Natasha a while back and my pair cut out and ready to go and then got side tracked but something else that had to be priority. Darn those priorities!

I made the pattern by knocking off some pleather pants Natasha had made me a while ago because I was planning on making us both a pair and I remembered her saying she had basically just made mine slightly bigger and a couple inches longer so I knew I could do the same for her in reverse!

I thought the zippers would be a fun detail but didn't want them being even so I ended up with the asymmetrical style as well as zippers up the back to mid calf, sorry no photo of that it didn't turn out. Really it's just an excuse for me to wear the again in the near future, plus the temperature has dropped here again to burrrrr status.

I'm glad I added the knit panels here, it makes these pants a little more interesting than just a typical leather pant, plus a little more forgiving fit wise when I was making them for someone else very far away!

Paris

Eiffel tower, paris,
Our first day in Paris
View from the Eiffel Tower
louvre, paris, museum
The Louvre (Apparently it's closed on Tuesday's so we had to go back the next day)
So I'm hoping to go get a tripod today and end all this photo's on the dress form because it's too dark when I get home from work to get someone else to take photo's for me business. For now however I will dream about Europe and the recent trip the beau and I took there. Our first stop obviously was Paris.

This was the second time I've been to Paris and I loved it just as much this time as I did the first, perhaps even more as I'm not a teenager this time around. I ate as many pastries as my stomach could fit and enjoy the red wine very much. I actually went up the Eiffel tower this time and I will just point out that I like the view from the Arc De Triumphe much better because the tower is in the view! Plus a storm came in when the beau and I went up and the wind was so cold I was a meat popsicle by the end of it!

Sadly I did not see any fabric stores.

Have you ever been to Paris?

Merry Christmas!

xmas sweater, snowflakes, reindeer,

christmas sweater, reindeer, bells

christmas bow, glitter

The beau had a Christmas sweater competition at work so upon him finding this red sweater I suggested we go to the dollar store and embellish it! So I used crafting felt and cut out silhouettes of Santa and his reindeer with reins that are a string of Christmas lights, and bells sewn onto them along with some foam stars stitched onto the other sleeve. Of course I can't forget the bow on the back that has left glitter everywhere.

Thrifted

thrifted, vintage, blue

Here are a couple dresses I've thrifted recently. The top two resulted in me going on a trek to find a slip and honestly with all the fuss it took I don't know why I didn't just make one! Lesson learned.

Sweater Mittens

mittens, sweater mittens

Mittens: Self made

I've made a pair of mittens! These were made from a men's old wool sweater which was then washed on hot to make it felt (it actually took three washes) and then I used a pair of mittens I had for the pattern and lined them with fleece. I'm not going to show any steps as theres a ton of DIY's on how to do them, simply google "sweater mittens" thats what I did.

This is my first time embroidering so it's a work in progress!

Catching Up

knitting, scarf, scarves, fringe

Scarf: Self made

My mum tried to teach me to knit about 5-7 years ago but of course when you learn something new and don't keep practicing you forget and such is the story with this scarf. This is the scarf she taught me on. I think it got packed into a box when I went off to school back in 2009 and then I found it last winter and decided it was going onto my year of finishing projects.

I may not of been blogging in the last while but I have been sewing and I can't wait to show off what I've been up to and what I have coming up!

Missed you all!

The Floppy Hat

thift store, knitted cardigan, stripes

Cardigan: Made by my Grandma
Top: Thrifted
Pants: Thrifted
Shoes: Aldo
Necklace: Lilac fastival
Hat: Aldo

These pants were a favourite find on my last trip to the thrift store, and as the days get warmer I'm sure they'll become a wardrobe staple.

I went to the annual Ujamaa grandma's charity fabric sale on the weekend, it's my favourite fabric extravaganza of the year and it didn't disappoint this year either. Stay tuned for my fabric finds!

Paco Robanne Exhibit

olds college, fashion institute, opening

leather jacket, paco robanne, exhibit

Leather Jacket: Danier
Skirt: H&M
Tights: Winners
Boots: Town Shoes
Purse: Milan Market

I went to the Fashion Institute over the weekend here in Calgary, it's new part of Olds College expanded into Calgary. They're having a Paco Robanne exhibit as part of the opening and it was delightful! The hallways at the Fashion Institute are lined with photos of student work and 3 of my portfolio photos are hanging up there, along with a lot of work by my friends/classmates.

Not Quite Spring

Blazer: Thrifted
Peplum Top: Selfmade
Velvet Skirt: Thrifted
Tights: Winners
Shoes: Aldo
Necklace: Thrifted

I'm ready for Spring and yet here I am wearing all these dark colours! Why? I'm not too sure. I will say that we have had some beautiful blue Alberta skies these days, and if the icy wind went away I'm sure Spring would come a little quicker. Hope however has returned to me since the discovery of buds on the trees yesterday!

In The Paper

leopard print evening gown, the sun newspaper, olds college, fashion program

The above photo is of a page out of The Sun newspaper and features my leopard print evening gown and the leather perfecto jacket is by my very talented friend Jesse. The college we went to is opening up a brand new facility for the Fashion program and our work was featured as recent alumni. I can't wait to see the new facility!

The Latest Sweater Addition

metallic yarn, sweater, painted denim

knitted sweater, painted jeans, plaid shirt

Sweater: Gift
Button Up: Thrifted
Painted Jeans: Done by me
Shoes: Bakers
Watch: Fossil

Isn't this sweater delightful? A lady who volunteers at my work gave it to me, I guess her daughter made it but it doesn't fit her and so here it is on me!

Ironically the last few posts have all shown photos of me in the sunshine, but this is a falsehood, a weather sham if you will. It's been blizzardy and ridiculous for the most of the past two weeks with the brief appearance of the sun. I'd usually be okay with this but the blizzards always come when I'd like to take photos and etc. Since the window of time to take photos after work is still a rather small one this weather just doesn't help me.

Looking on the positive side of things this has meant for some great snow in the mountains, and I'll be savouring every snowy day I do get out on my board until Spring really does decide to come in earnest.

Watch It

joe fresh, boots, spring

nine west boots, dress, tights

Dress: Selfmade
Cardigan Thrifted
Tights: Joe Fresh
Boots: Nine West
Necklace: Gift
Sunnies: Aldo

So I should of kept quiet about the weather, ever since the last outfit photos were taken it's been blizzarding and brutal and obviously not conducive to photo taking. But out the sun has come and it melted all the snow and it was a beautiful evening for a dog walk!

I must get sewing if this is to be the year of finishing things....

Feeling Like Spring

orange, coat, spring, trends

boots, headband, mixing prints, orange trench

Jacket: Gift from Natasha
Dress: Thrifted
Tights: Winners
Boots: Town Shoes
Headband: Ardene
Necklace: Suzy Shier

Okay so at the moment it feels far from Spring like but looking through Spring fashions has really gotten me into the mood for lighter layers and brighter colours. I found this dress on a recent thrifting excursion and it reminded me a lot of some runway looks I had seen from somewhere.... Plus it's mixing prints which I just couldn't resist.

Galloping Around

horse printed fabric, printed onesie

Anthropologie, jumpsuit, leather jacket

horse print, leather jacket

Leather Jacket: Danier
Jumpsuit: Anthropologie
Heels: The Shoe Company
Handband: Gift
Earrings: Gift

Whenever I wear something horse printed the beau amuses himself with continuous comments such as "and where are you galloping off to?" "Horsin' around over there?" "Whoa it looks like a stampede headed this way!" His biggest surprise is the fact that he's the only person that ever says these things.

Meanwhile I must go on a hunt for a tripod, I busted my last one and will not be risking my new camera with balancing it on random objects (Natasha) and waiting for a tragedy to occur.

Sequin Find

sequin top, leopard dress

Sequin Top: Thrifted
Dress: H&M
Tights: Winners
Boots: Town Shoes

I'm still thrilled at finding this sequin top, what fun it was to wear! I'm turning into a bird with my never ending want for shiny sparkly things it seems, but I like birds so I'm fine with that......

Mad Men Dress Challenge 2013 Options

Julia bobbin is having another Mad Men Dress Challenge and I'm hoping amidst all the craziness of the next two months I will be able to participate. Here are a few contenders for my dress inspiration.

Aside from finding the time to make my dress, it will be even harder to choose which one to make!

On The Hunt But Not Really

Jacket: Thrifted
Dress: Better On You
Tights: Winners
Booties: Nine West
Necklace: Gift

I have been on a real shopping/thrifting rampage lately and I have not been taking enough things out of my closet compared to what I'm now trying to fit into it! I am in major need of a closet overhaul, something I've been telling myself to do since before Christmas. I'm sure I'll get to it eventually.
