Grave Gala 2012

Happy Halloween! Well it's the best day of the year in my opinion, costumes that are always making me try new things, getting together with friends, and eating candy! I celebrated over the weekend at the Grave Gala (best night ever!) and here are a few shots from the night.

See the bird on my head?

Me, The Beau, and his mini me

Wet floor guy = awesome

My jacket and dress and the Beau's jacket and pants were drafted and made by me and the jester stick were also made by me.

Vest: Suzy Shier
Dress: Thrifted
Corduroy Pants: Joe Fresh
Boots: Aldo
Necklace: Le Chateau

I'm trying out this raisin colour lipstick by Joe Fresh and loving it, it's quite a leap from other colours I've used in the past but a fun fall trend to try!

I'm back from Vegas but haven't had a chance to organize my photos and truthfully that may not happen until next week since it is Halloween week and I will be working much longer days for the events at work and all the work my costume still requires!

Guest Post: Tasha Delrae

As a special treat while I'm away Natasha is here for a guest post to share some of her sewing and DIY projects from some of the big trends this year. Enjoy!

Hi friends of Bri’s!
It's Natasha from!  You may have seen me here on Briannas blog a time or two before…because that’s what friends do, sometimes they show up to your house for dinner…other times they take over your blog for the day!
I thought I would share with you some of my more recent sewing projects, the inspiration behind them and how I wore them. Like Brianna, I not only enjoy styling outfits (aka getting dressed), but also spend a lot of time making clothes (and accessories).

In January I was inspired by Floral Blazers and Leather sleeved Blazers, so I mixed the two together and made this faux leather sleeved floral blazer.

In June I mixed my love of Peplum Skirts and the colour green and altered a basic skirt pattern to make a pencil skirt with a peplum.
For all non-sewers out there I also made a no-sew removable peplum version out of faux leather!

Last month I was inspired by Oversized Blazers and Boyfriend Vests and made this oversized vest.

In September my little brother got married and since my eggo is preggo, I needed a dress to fit my baby bump.  I was inspired by the Tulip Shaped Maternity dresses at to make this Fall watercolour printed Maternity Dress.  I included a tutorial on my blog showing how I altered a regular dress pattern to turn it into a tulip shaped maternity dress.  The greatest thing about this dress is that it fits my (not at all pregnant) dress form perfectly, meaning that you don't have to be knocked up to wear this style of dress!
I hope you've enjoyed checking out my latest projects as much as I've enjoyed sharing them with you!  Of course there's many are sewing projects on my blog...and a bunch of DIY posts as well!

Thank you Natasha!

Tassel Necklace DIY

When I was visiting Natasha we got crafty and I wanted to share this super fun necklace DIY. I've been quite inspired by all of the tapestry things I've been seeing for Fall and I've even picked up some really cool tapestry inspired fabric and trim as well, so upon spotting some tassels realized they could be quite fun in a necklace and here is what I've come up with.

You will need:

Metal rings at your desired size
A tassel
Beads and bead wire
Closure of some kind

Glue the rings into your desired shape (This helps when you're wrapping
the ribbon on them later, I will say that I either didn't use enough or
didn't wait long enough because my rings did not stay together!)

String your beads onto your bead wire

Wrap your ribbon around your metal rings leaving enough at the ends to
go around your neck.

Add your tassel and you're done!

This is the necklace I was wearing in yesterdays post Coming Up Next, and make sure to stay tuned on Natasha's blog for her upcoming Tassel necklace DIY as well!

Coming Up Next

Cardigan: Thrifted
Top: Reitmans
Skirt: The Gap
Tights: Winners
Shoes: Aldo
Necklace: Made by me, DIY to come

A beautiful fall day here, I wish I could of spent more time outside enjoying the sunshine. The necklace  is the result of some craft time during my visit with Natasha, stay tuned for the upcoming DIY!

On a side note: to anyone out there who texts while driving please stop, yesterday my mum was in a car accident because a girl was texting and rear ended her. Thankfully my mum is fine, sore and bruised but nothing serious thats been found. But seriously, stop with the texting and talking if you don't have hands free set up.

Over The Weekend

Here are some photo's from my weekend.

My masterpiece of a stuffed turkey for Thanksgiving dinner

It was dreary enough over the weekend that a blanky was required.

My corset for my Halloween costume, complete with two layers
of muslin, lining, dupioni, and boning.

Fabric I found for the beau's venetian jester costume.

For all of you Canucks out there I hope you had a fabulous Thanksgiving! I also want to mention that I went and saw Brave this weekend, I've been waiting till it went to cheapies so I didn't have to suffer through stupid 3D and it was so fantastic! It reminded me a lot of my teenage years riding on my horse out in the forests hair streaming out behind me, those were good times.....

Yellow To Leopard

Yellow Dress: Thrifted
Leopard Dress: H&M
Belt: Chado
Booties: Winners
Necklace: Made by Natasha

I'm enjoying the Fall bootie trend while layering some different pieces with the weather cooling off around here. While thrifting a friend assured me I could not leave behind this yellow dress, and I'm quite glad I didn't because I love these two dresses layered together for an unexpected and fun look.

Which Print Where

Jacket: Suzy Shier
Tank Tops: H&M
Jeans: Urban Outfitters
Brogues: Aldo

I woke up and decided that I wanted an outfit a little more out there, and this is what I came up with. I'm also rocking a Joe Fresh berry coloured lipstick and loving it, I love Fall and all the new things it brings!

Did you notice the horse print and that one leg the print is up and the other is down? Well it's like that on the back too but opposite legs, so apparently intentional, strange that I didn't notice this until I got these jeans home.

Pineapple Shorts Quality Time

Vest: Thrifted
Kensie Top: Liquidation World
Shorts: The Bay
Wedges: Payless

This was probably one of the last summery days around here, I know I said that before but this time Fall is already in the air and I know it's true! I enjoyed getting the pineapple printed shorts out for one last time, they're super comfy and they have pineapples on them, win win!

This week I'm hoping to share some fabulous thrift store finds that are perfect for the Fall trends, some fabric I got while on my road trip, and a Necklace DIY that Natasha and I did together during my visit.

Stay tuned, and happy Monday!
