Where In The Weekend?

Hat: Stampede Vendor
Leather Jacket: Florence Leather Market
Jeans: Thrifted
Wedges: Nine West

It really wasn't that nice out yesterday but I wore my newest shoes anyways as we've had so much rain this was the only chance I've had since the first time I got to wear them! I had a fantastic weekend, and since I'm currently working 6 day weeks due to it been the busiest part of the year for me at work I think that says a lot! Friday I was out with friends at a favorite sushi restaurant and then after to a pub where I had the best brownie dessert ever I think. I also got to Ikea and finally picked up my table top for my cutting table, a nice big wall shelf and new lighting as the single bulb in my sewing room is just not cutting it!

Happy Monday!

The one thing I didn't do this weekend was find a fun umbrella and wellies since we have nothing but more rain headed to my neck of the woods....

Pick Me Up

Dress: Thrifted
Vest: H&M
Belt: Chado
Boots: Bakers
Necklace: F21

This fun printed dress was a great pick me up on yet another dreary day lately. It was great to have some sunshine but that now feels like it was quite some time ago unfortunately. I will say that things are really starting to green up around here so the rain is worth it!

Sadly, the cutting table at work had a sharp bit on it and I snagged my dress no less than 3 times, so I'm not sure it will be hanging around for much longer.....

I'm intending on making a list in hopes of getting productive this weekend, we'll see how that goes.

Have a great weekend!

P.S.

For those of you who have been sick I hope you get better so you can go "pay with fends...."

Hemline Whoa

I'm looking at these photos and thinking, "Oh, that hemline seems a little short (for work)!

It was great for being outside at break time and working on my hem though.

Dress: Thrifted
Jacket: F21
Sandals: Spring
Bangles: Ten Thousand Villages & Thrifted

The last photo is me branching out for my outfit photos and being just a bit silly. Please note I think I got a bit of color over the weekend and my legs aren't glowing anymore!

Blue Never Felt So Good

Top: Selfmade
Pants: Anthropologie
Bracelets: Dollarama & F21
Headband: Ardenes
Wedges: Nine West

I finally used my Nine West giftcard! From Christmas.... No really, I got it at Christmas and figured I would wait for Spring shoes and it's just taken me this long to go and get some! Plus I've forgotten my giftcard on at least one occasion too, so inconvenient.... It was worth the wait though, they're a magnificent coral color and super comfy.

It was 25+ degrees here again yesterday, it's been absolutely heavenly. I even got to sit outside to eat lunch for the first time this year! I hear we're supposed to get some rain, however I welcome it as with this beautiful weather I'm getting absolutely nothing done!

Thank you for all the lovely comments I've been getting, positive reinforcement is always lovely.

If You Build It, They Will Come

Or in my case, if you share a dreary outfit and whine about the weather, maybe
the weather gods will take pity and throw some sunshine your way....

I enjoyed this outfit, the mixture of textures with the beaded belt, blouse and
skirt quite lifted me out of my dreary state, and of course the sunshine helped....

Blouse: RW & Co
Knit Top: Joe Fresh
Belt: Refind
Skirt: Selfmade
Tights: Suzy Shier
Flats: Aldo
Bracelet: Thrifted

Meanwhile, now that I'm on track with getting my DIY posts done, I'm on a mission to do better with my blog photos, better settings for them and etc.... Now that Spring is definitely here and things are getting greener that should make things much improved too.

How do you find pretty settings for your photos? Do you scout areas? Are you lucky enough to live right next to a beautiful spot?

Happy Monday!

Leather Tribal Necklace DIY

I've decided to get my butt in gear and try to do at least one DIY a month, hopefully this will help me get through my never ending list.

This leather necklace is one I've been meaning to do for a while, great timing for spring!

You will need:

Leather - I had this deer leather from a leather shop, but you can get bags of scrap leather from craft stores for cheap and usually with a variety of colors.
Leather needle - these are special and have an extra sharp tip to cut through the leather.
Beads - I actually found this necklace at VV for a buck, but I've seen great beads even at the dollar store these days.
Scissors
Elastic

Decide on the length you want the pieces of leather, I just eye balled it not wanting my pieces to be too perfect and then cut the pieces making them wider at the top where you will thread the elastic through. I  also used my scissors to make my holes slightly bigger after making a hole with my leather needle since my elastic was bigger than my needle and couldn't be threaded through the needle! A minor oversight I won't forget in the future....

Choose your pattern - I kept it simple and alternated the leather and beads. I think using a couple different colors and then alternating the lengths would also be fun.

Once I had enough of the leather strings I just kept threading the beads. I checked the amount of leather strings I wanted by simply holding up the necklace in front of the mirror and checking how it laid.

And Ta Daaa!!!!

I did go around the necklace and trim a couple of the leather pieces once completed, the center of the necklace strings are slightly longer.

I think I'll do a bracelet variation to go with my awesome new necklace!

Have a great weekend!

Oh Dreary Day

I'm trying to smile (Natasha) in this photo....

Cropped jacket: Zara
Knit Top: Banana Republic
Jeans: Thrifted
Ballet flats: Spring
Hat: Stampede booth

The weather here is super wet and chilly, and the damp cold is really getting to me! I just want to wear flowy summer clothes and here I am all bundled up again.....

To placate myself I went and bought a most fabulous pair of wedges from Nine West in a pinky coral color, the weatherman better follow through on that sunshine this weekend! I also got some lovely orange coral make up from Sephora, needless to say I feel much better after my retail therapy.

Leather Happy

Blouse: Thrifted
Leather Skirt: Thrifted
Tights: Winners
Shoes: The Shoe Company
Earrings:?
Necklace: Gift

I really love this leather skirt, how nice of my friend to find this and it not fit her so I got it! I mean that in the nicest way possible, I'm pretty sure she got something I had found too, so it worked out even. I think I'll be adding snaps to the blouse though, because it keeps looking like it's pulling at the front and it's not tight on me so I'm hoping a couple strategically placed snaps will fix that. One more thing on the alterations/repair pile..... I think I'm at the point where I could actually set aside a weekend and maybe not be done still!

Happy Hump Day!

Epic Fabric Sale

This wall hanging spool cost me $5! At Fabricland these things cost $40 for one a third of the size!

Two of my favorite prints

These four fabrics are all knits, I don't think I've ever seen a knit with an eyelet like embroidery on it, but I'm looking forward to enjoying making something out of it. I bought a few other pieces but these were my favorites and I didn't want to be posting a dozen photos. I should mention that I was so good I even gave myself a budget of $40 and I only spent $29, so now you know why this fabric sale is so exciting for me, super amazing deals!

Oh So Blue

Lace Jacket: Given to me!
Dress: Suzy Shier
Necklaces: Le Chateau
Tights: Gift
Shoes: Aldo
Earrings: Anika Burke

I enjoyed the different textures in this outfit, with a favorite printed dress. I really can't get enough of this lace jacket given to me by a lady who volunteers at my work, it's part of a suit I just haven't had a chance to wear the skirt yet.

Meanwhile, I've had a seriously unproductive week so I'm hoping to make up for it this weekend, which now that I'm thinking about it is probably unlikely as my weekend that was supposed to be quiet is now jam packed! It does include a big fabric sale that has been epic in past years so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Hope you have a lovely weekend!

Ladies Spring Mantle

So I've finally put together my toile for the Ladies Spring Mantle. I'd like to say that everything is just dandy but that's so far from the truth! It's too big which isn't such a big deal but there's something weird going on with the back...

The toile is sticking out between my arm and shoulder blades as if I've got horns coming in back there or something, and given the fact that this is all one pattern piece and I was twisting awkwardly trying to  see what was happening in the mirror this is something I'm going to need some outside fitting help!

This fabric and trim I would like to use once I get this fitting mystery solved!

Have you ever come across a fitting conundrum so bizarre you didn't know what to do?

Easter Colors

DKNY Blazer: Thrifted
Knit Top: Reitmans
Necklace: Hair show
Bracelet: Ten Thousand Villages
Printed Pants: Self made
Shoes: Aldo

These pants are a project I've finished recently out of some silk charmeuse fabric I've had in my stash for quite some time, and simply been waiting for the perfect project to use it for! I used my basic pants sloper and made a straight leg shape from the hip down for a square shape at the hem in order to keep the border print matching at the hem of the pants. I finally had a warm day this week to try out these beauties and it was great, silk pants equals uber comfort! I would of liked to of worn some fun heels with these pants but with all the pattern drafting and cutting at work lately and a table thats barely tall enough with flats I figured I'd try that next time around!

Easter this year for me will be pretty relaxed, brunch at my place with some friends but mostly relaxing especially since we're about to go into the craziest time of year at my work!

Happy Easter!

Patterns Galore

A few different fun tops to try out.

A western shirt pattern to get me ready for Stampede this summer, a lovely looking slip pattern and this seriously elegant dress pattern.

Check out that amazing jumpsuit! The dress on the right I think will look great without the shoulder pads and this boyfriend blazer pattern looks like exactly the kind of jacket I want.

This last pattern was given to me with some red wool double knit or something like that. It's already cut out from when my lovely friend started making this apparently quite some time ago, so she has challenged me to stitch it for myself. It's a gorgeous shade of red, I can't wait to get to it!

Matchy Matchy

Here is the final result of The Patti Dress Challenge! Sadly our timing for photos was not the best and Melissa and I are both squinting in every single one or blinking! I didn't get a shot of the back of Melissa's dress, she did a fabulous V shaped back with a little green bow!

I think our co workers were quite entertained by us in these dresses!

A close up of our dress fabric

The card I got from Patti for participating and completing the Patti dress challenge! The neatest part was that Patti didn't know what style of dresses Melissa and I were making and yet look at the card she made! So perfect!

I really do work with some amazing people......

Vintage Maxi

Maxi Dress: Gift
Earrings & Necklace: Gift
Leather Jacket: Florence Leather Market
Boots: The Shoe Company

This beautiful dress was given to me by a volunteer from my work! The fabric was given to her by some friends on a trip to Thailand which she then made into this dress and did I mention she did all of this back in the 70's!!!! It also fits me perfect, so of course it was meant to be.

Happy Monday!
