Mad Men Dress Challenge Fabric

Admittedly the fabric isn't the same or Pucci-esque but I love it and I think this is what I'm going to go with for the Mad Men dress challenge. We'll see.....

Faux Fur Bomber Completed

Jacket: Selfmade
Dress: Selfmade
Necklaces: Suzy Shier, Thrifted
Tights: Winners
Over the knee socks: Winners
Boots: The Shoe Company
Betsey Johnson Sunnies: Winners
Ring: Winners

This faux fur jacket is a project I finished up this weekend when I could go no further on another. How convenient that I had to stop on one project forcing me to work on this and make me finish at least one of my ongoing projects.

I used a kasha lining because this faux fur is actually quite thin and I wanted to be able to wear this jacket right now instead of waiting!!! I also added ribbing to the cuffs and hem of the jacket to give it a bomber jacket kind of feel but collarless to mix things up.

To brighten up my Monday last night I hit up the 50% off sale at Value Village and found a couple great pieces, and I can't wait to share them!

Mad Men Dress Challenge: Choosing

JuliaBobbin is hosting a Mad Men dress challenge and I'm quite excited! Now I have to admit I've never watched Mad Men(gasp!) but I've always enjoyed photos from the show with the fabulous clothing they always wear. Plus I've been getting amazing vintage patterns from work so this is a great chance for me to start using them!

These are my favorite outfit inspirations

Okay, so I don't have the curves that Christina does, but I love this style and still think it would quite versatile.

This Pucci esque maxi is absolutely amazing but where to find fabric that would do this justice?

This dress has such a fabulous extra layer on the skirt that wraps at the front which I really like!

I really like the way this contrasting fabric band

I love Betty's multi colored dress with the layered ruffles!

Okay this isn't a dress but it is a fantastic suit with a leopard blouse and I have a pattern just like this!

Back In Blogland

Coat: Thrifted
Faux Fur Vest: Selfmade
Blouse: Thrifted
Belt: Zara
Jeans: Selfmade
Bangles: F21 & Ten Thousand Villages
Boots: Nine West

Well I think I can say that the crazy stuff is behind me and I can help indulge myself back here in blog world. I'm also determined to get in some serious snooze time to make up for working on stuff till 1:15am (followed by a quick glass of wine to celebrate completion) and then going to work at 8am. Doable, but thankfully a rarity in my life these days post college and boy was this a reminder of why graduating was so wonderful!

Now I can get back to the important stuff like finishing my printed silk pants and my faux fur bomber style jacket. I can't wait to share them!

I'm also thinking about doing a spring wardrobe challenge and I can say I'm definitely not short on ideas with all the amazing Spring fashions, thank you Vogue!

Have a fabulous weekend!

Pleat Front Pants

Jacket: Thrifted
Sheer Top: RW & Co
Knit Top: Joe Fresh
Pleat Front Pants: Suzy Shier
Earrings: Anika Burke
Betsey Johnson Sunnies: Winners
Pumps: Nine West

Friday my friend and I were supposed to be going to a gallery exhibit and this was what I was wearing, unfortunately she ended up feeling quite ill and sadly we had to postpone. This was perhaps for the best  because on top of that we had a storm coming in and my footwear was obviously not appropriate, call it desperation for summer and sandal weather after seeing non stop editorials of summer fashion!

I saw a photo of Keira Knightley wearing some pants similar to these last week which reminded me I had a similar pair in my closet and I should bust them out! I had originally planned to shorten these pants slightly but I've changed my mind! Thank goodness too because thats one less thing on my alterations pile!

Happy Monday!

Too Many Sequins?

Sequinned Jacket: The Gap
Dress(Tunic): Thrifted
Jeans: Thrifted
Loafer Pumps: Nine West
Betsey Johnson Sunnies: Winners

I put on this "dress" this morning with some tights and realized under no circumstances should I go to work dressed like that! The flesh toned fabric underneath the skirt part only goes to the top of the first ruffle and on me thats not decent.... I started envisioning people at work calling me the flasher girl afterwords or something else equally unattractive and thought maybe I would throw some jeans on and rock the dress as a tunic. I think I will change the lining out with something else and make it a couple inches longer in order to save this dress for future use.

I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

Faux Fur Jacket

Apparently I decided to delete my last set of outfit photos so now I'm sharing a project I'm working on. The worst part about deleting those photos was that it was a groovy printed wrap dress which has been retired after noticing it had reached it's expiration date.

Moving on.... I'm making a grey faux fur jacket with a ribbed hem and sleeves almost like this and hopefully I will have it zipped together to show off next week! Conveniently I googled grey faux fur jacket with ribbing and I found this lovely image because pictures make everything better!

I saw a sneak preview of Safe House last night and really enjoyed it (thank you Amy for getting passes!) but was also covered in butter from my bag of popcorn. No really covered! As in how did I not notice the giant butter spots all over me! I'm a big fan of butter layered over my popcorn but I can't say this extreme situation has ever happened to me. Does anyone else out there have a crazy popcorn story such as this?

Channeling Coco

Trench: Bebe
Sweater: Thrifted
Skirt: Selfmade
Gloves: Gift from Natasha
Necklace: Suzy Shier
Boots: ?

I started this skirt back around Xmas but then got busy, I don't think thats too hard for anyone to imagine.... Anyways finally finished this skirt. Now you may be saying, what do you mean finally, its a simple maxi skirt.... however I get to a point where when I stop on a project is can be grueling to make myself finish it simply because I've moved on.... It does feel great to have it completed though don't get me wrong but I'm certainly a gemini in this case where I'm great at starting projects but finishing them can be hard for me!

I will say that I bought this fabric at Walmart many years ago and it was so thin and kind of see through I actually quilted this fabric onto the lining to stabilize it. What a pain...... It did turn out rather Chanel esque which is why I couldn't resist pairing the pearls with it!

Meanwhile I was over the moon to find my amazing gloves after having been on the hunt for them since the fall! They somehow ended up with my tights, I found them flirting with some bright red tights... But how do gloves end up hiding with the tights I ask?

Happy Hump Day (You know, because it's Wednesday....)!

Leopard Print Loafers

Blazer: Thrifted
Top: Selfmade
Badass pants: made by Natasha
Ellen Tracy Loafers: Winners

I went to go pick up take out the other night and came back with these fabulous shoes as well. I've been needing a new pair of flats for all the pattern making I'm doing at work lately, heels make me uncomfortably tall for working at the table that other people that are almost a foot shorter than me work at too! I think these shoes go perfectly with my badass pants too!

Leopard Wallpaper

Thursday night I had a very unexpected call saying my wallpaper had arrived, which meant it was at least a week early from what I was originally told not that I'm complaining! I've never wallpapered before but this turned out to be a good project, not difficult, not easy but certainly worth all the trouble.

Costs for one 8x10ft wall:

Wallpaper - 4 rolls $100
Tools: $29

Time taken to hang paper: 3.5hrs

The original wall was a soft butter yellow, I had read online about using an acrylic product called sizing  which stops the wallpaper from drying as quickly which enables the wallpaper to be adjusted for better positioning. Plus, the sizing can be tinted (as seen above) which will blend better with the color of the wallpaper being used to reduce the ability to see between the seams of the paper just in case!

Voila, my masterpiece! Good luck to anyone that comes over to my place and tries to find the seems on this wallpaper, I could hardly find them when I was looking for them to run the seam roller over them!

If you've been thinking about wallpapering, I say do it! I did this project all by myself, just me and my two hands (I'm a perfectionist and my man is not, ergo he was not invited to participate in this project. I will say that it seems as though he was relieved about this because he brought up once that he didn't think he would be good at wallpapering....)

Please not the time listed is simply just for the hanging of the wallpaper, it did not include all the moving of stuff nor the moving back of stuff!

Now I'm trying to figure out what else I can wallpaper.....

Sparkly But Not On Broadway

Jacket: Thrifted
Dress: Liquidation World
Tights: Winners
Wedge Heels: The Shoe Company
Earrings: Anika Burke

I have to say these are some of my most favorite photo's in quite some time, extended daylight hours probably have something to do with this! This outfit was inspired by an article on trends right now in Instyle UK talking about geometric prints and I thought of this dress and that it had been a while since we'd hung out!

I've mentioned before how entertaining guys commenting on clothes can be and this outfit was no exception. Two guys I know from work caught me on my way in when the sun was shining and commented that my tights were so bright I should be on Broadway!!!! Maybe you had to be there...

What do you think on my ongoing blog revamp?

I hope you have a fabulous weekend whatever you get up to!

Lace Jacket

Lace Jacket: Thrifted
Top: Thrifted
Pants: RW&Co
Ring: Winners
Red Leather Loafers: Nine West
Earrings: Anika Burke

I love that lace has become so popular once again and even though I never got around to making my own lace jacket, I did manage to thrift one! Meanwhile these pants are a new favorite and a pair I definitely should knock off I think.....

It's getting harder to dress for winter with so many fabulous pages of spring clothing in all my favorite glossies and my project list is growing ever longer. How are you dealing with winter dressing?

I should also add that this is the mildest winter ever and I really am thankful but wish there was more snow.... White stuff makes everything prettier!

Blue And Orange

Joe Fresh Coat: Gift from Natasha
Gloves: Gift from Natasha
Pants: Anthropologie
Steve Madden Flats: DSW
Ruffle Vest: H & M
Blouse: Thrifted
Necklace: Thrifted
Headband: Ardene

In an effort to save these photos I used the retro effects on Pixlr and then went crazy with the middle one and the exposure. The middle photo was actually an accident since it was a decent photo but a little over exposed and since all my photos weren't so great from this particular day I was trying to fix them and the crazy thing happened but I ended up liking it and thought I would share!

This ongoing battle with my point and shoot makes me really think I should be saving up for a DSLR!
