Happy Hallowe'en 2011

Masquerade character from The Labrinth, saloon girl, maid, Sweet Pea - Suckerpunch, The Mad Hatter - Alice In Wonderland, Quorra - Tron Legacy (Me)

We didn't get too crazy with the pumpkin carvings this year, but I like how my Jack turned out!

Happy Hallowe'en! Have I mentioned that this is my favorite holiday (even though its not actually a holiday) of the year? I got my costume finished in the nick of time and had so much fun playing with the lights all night. They can be adjusted so that they blink fast, slow, or just stay on steady.

This has probably been one of my nest Hallowe'en's ever since I got to go to The Haunt at Knotsberry Farms in California, all the costume work we did for the events at my work and then my own celebrations. Tonight I will be watching fun movies, eating pumpkin seeds and handing out candy, a pleasant way to finish off this most fabulous time of year!

Hope everyone else is enjoying their Hallowe'en.

Dress Refashion For Halloween

Here is another refashion as part of the Old to New October event Natasha is co-hosting with A Little Bit Of This

This is a dress I refashioned for my sister for her Halloween Costume!

I started by taking it in A LOT. I also changed the neckline, shortened the dress to midi length, removed the white crinoline underneath and putting in a new zipper. *I forgot to mention all the boning I sewed into the bodice as well!

The fun stuff was stitching on the trim around the neckline and torso piece as well as the serious amount of black crinoline that helps give this dress the volume at the bottom of the skirt. The black and gold fabric I gathered and stitched along the over layer piece and ended up having a last minute brilliant idea. I decided to take the end you see buttoned at the back and gather it and put a finger loop in it, but put the button on the back so when my sister has had enough floating with this fabric she can hitch it up at the back and continue on with her galavanting! Quite genius if I do say myself... because I must be the first person to ever do that right? Sadly no, but it looks cool!

I almost forgot to mention the crazy applique I did on the front with my lace leftovers from my Lace skirt project. I chalked where I wanted to cut out the piece of lace and then attached it on the front after taking forever to cut out the shapes on the lace as perfectly as I could manage. Plus the lace on the spaghetti strap that I then stitched feathers into also.

All in all this was a great project and I was happy to do it as my sister is stoked for her costume. I can't wait to see her in her wig and masque with this dress for the full effect! Stay tuned!

Not only is this a fun project hosted by the above's lovely ladies, they're giving away prizes at the end of the month including accessories from Anika Burke, I'm loving the fun chunky necklaces and rings!

Over My Knee's

Leather Jacket: Florence Leather Market
Pashmina: Florence
Dress: Thrifted
Over The Knee socks: Winners
Booties: The Shoe Company
Hat: Walk About Hats

These photos are from the weekend when my sister and I went to The Women's Show. Kudo's to my sister Jennifer for taking these photos, these are the only photos she took, I didn't even crop a single one I liked them that much.

I enjoyed this outfit a lot because I got to wear one of my favorite dresses, over the knee socks I recently got at Winners and these fun little booties that don't get out much.... And since this was a chilly day and we were headed inside a building with large crowds of people I knew layers would be key.

The best part of going to this show was the lovely gentlemen firefighters because I wanted to get my sister a calendar so she had some man candy for her boring dorm walls. The even signed her calendar, yay!

As for the fish, this is Arnolde. I helped move my sister into rez this weekend and once we found out she wasn't going to have a roommate we decided a fish would be a good buddy and at least that way once I left her she would have at least one friend! Plus check out the cool wallpaper that came with the little fish tank. Have I ever mentioned how hilarious my sister's imitations of Arnold S. are?

Universal Studios

I finally made it to Universal Studios

I love the Jurassic Park movies, so this was the highlight of my day!

Although Beetlejuice was pretty awesome....

This is the tiny pond where Jaws was filmed, along with a fabulous re-enactment!

A Waterworld reenactment that was very cool!

We did not sit in the "Wet" zones.... I'm glad too, people in those areas got drenched!

All in all Universal Studios was a neat place, especially for the Jurassic Park element. To finish off our day we headed down city walk and checked out the shops, I found a most fabulous one shoulder mini dress that is leopard print with clear sequins over top! A lot I know, but totally amazing and I can't wait for an opportunity to wear it!

Disney Land

Yes, I took a picture with the John Wayne statue at the airport.... It was fun.....

Also, check out the amazing costumes at Disneyland. What I would give to go through their costume department! It was awesome that I finally got to see the Disneyland parade since I've only ever seen it on tv before!

Halloween Costume Progress

Heres my progress on my sisters Halloween costume so far. Just to recap shes going as one of the characters from The Labrinth at the ball so she will also be wearing a mask and a really cool headpiece.

Back to the dress:

So far I've cut the dress so it will be a midi length, removed the crinoline, taken in the CB seam and put in a new zipper, as well as changing the neckline to be more risque! It was a high straight across neckline before that seemed too junior prom!

Hopefully I'll zip through adding all the trims and fabric that will drape across the one side and be done and onto my next costume..... Because then I'll only have 2 more to do!

Have a great weekend!

Vest DIY

Here is another refashion as part of the Old to New October event Natasha is co-hosting with A Little Bit Of This

This week I decided to give new life to a vest I've had for a while. I usually don't do up this vest when wearing it because thats usually how I rock that particular style but also because on this vest this it doesn't fit quite right. I decided to change that as well as add to it to give some extra oomph!

Before photo.... Notice four buttons and loop closures.....

Tadaa! I took off the top button and loop closure and voila the vest fits completely different! I thrifted this vest and I'm wondering if perhaps this was a child's vest due to the lack of bust shaping? I also added this little silk charmeuse peplum from a remnant I had in my stash.

I totally slacked on this project and used the fabric edge as my hem instead of having to do a hem!

This was a fun little project that I came up with last minute after the shirt I was going to rework had a stain in it! I think it turned out great and I can't wait to wear it out for a test drive!

Not only is this a fun project hosted by the above's lovely ladies, they're giving away prizes at the end of the month including accessories from Anika Burke, I'm loving the fun chunky necklaces and rings!

A Quick Note

I'm back from my trip and I have to say it was MAGICAL! Yes, yes, I know a corny thing to say when I went to Disneyland but very true! The trip started out rather interestingly since I was so tired when I got up Saturday I forgot to put my shoes on and didn't notice till I arrived at the airport and saw I was wearing my slippers! Seriously, I'm not making this up! I will add that my house slippers are in fact shoes, they're a pair of Whooga's which are basically Uggs that I wear in the house, but still. The beau thought it was hilarious....

Now I must sleep (because I obviously wrote this last night) so I will post photos tomorrow!

Faux Fur Jacket

The other day I saw the cutest faux fur jacket in the Zara window, it actually wasn't this jacket but very similar. For some reason I can't find the jacket I'm thinking of, but it looks like this but the fur was loopy and fluffy and very cute. I also then happened to see faux fur like this at Fabricland and now think I absolutely must go and get it!!!! Plus they had other fun faux fur that didn't look totally brutal and I would like to use it as part of the jacket with other fabrics like the one Threads magazine had on the cover recently? Ringing any bells? This jacket had 3 different fabrics on it including faux fur and it looked briliant, plus spot on with trends I'd really like to try this fall/winter!

Costume Exhibit Cont.

Kate Beckingsale wears this costume in a movie called The Golden Bowl.. I've never heard of it but I'd like to watch it for the period costumes!

This costume is worn by Radha Mitchell in Finding Neverland. Aren't the details on both these dresses amazing? Also, I finally got my Macbook back after taking forever to get fixed so this is why I am now posting more of these photos!

Make sure to check out Natasha's Old to New project today!
