Green With Envy

Skirt: Zara
Top: Winners
Espadrilles: Payless
Earrings: Gift
Necklaces: Thirfted and gift

Tonight I cut out my polka dot blouse, so hopefully I will get it sewn up pretty quick. I had originally bought the Vogue pattern a couple years ago to alter into a dress with some red and white polka dot fabric I have but, since I really like this pattern I think doing the top would be a good 1st go to try out the pattern.

Yay for this top I found at Winners, its super comfy and looks extra awesome with my red hair!

Another day of wearing heels and no sore ankle, its finally feeling almost like new which I am relieved about since wearing flats for pretty much all summer was a bit of a bummer.

Also, thank you very much for the lovely comments I received about my knit dress and my lovely vintage dress! Comments make me all warm and fuzzy!

Palliser High Tea

Dress: Vintage
Feather hair piece: No idea found it in a box the other day
Liz Claibourne Heels: Winners
Purse: Walmart
Gloves: Borrowed from Melissa

This weekend I went to High Tea at The Palliser for my friend Melissa's late birthday celebration. It's odd to think that until this summer I have never participated in High Tea and this is now my second High Tea. I really am enjoying them though. As you can see I went all out, and was most excited to wear this vintage frock I had found on my girls weekend with Natasha.

Not when I put this dress on, the beau looked at me and said "oh, when did you get that?" and replied I had gotten it with Natasha, and stated that it was "vintage" and he looked back and me and said "yes, it's very vintage...." as if he could think of no other response that was safe and simply regurgitated back what I had said.... Boys....

I had forgotten to put my gloves back on when I stopped for photos so I quickly did one when I got home. Photos were a lot of fun, as I'm sure you can tell since there are so many. It just was hard to choose....

Happy Monday!

I'm trying to decide which project to start next?

FWC Completed Knit Dress

So here's the knit dress all finished. I ended up changing the hem to asymmetrical just for fun and I'm glad I did, it adds a little something....

Well this means in my first week I've made my first piece so I'm on schedule! This is with having house guests all week too, I'm definitely counting on the long weeks to help me with my bigger projects!

Have a fabulous weekend!

Fall Wardrobe Challenge Knit Dress

This is the knit fabric I'm using for my knit dress, I got it at a charity fabric sale this past spring. Its super soft and just the right amount of stretch for me so I think it will be quite perfect for this project.

For my pattern, I used my knit top pattern and then added my skirt sloper for the bottom part of the dress, lining the sloper and pattern pieces up at the hip line.

Hopefully tonight I'll be able to zip this all together, since dinner with guests turned into shopping afterwards and zero sewing last night....

Meanwhile, the blue knit fabric I'm using for my knit top has vanished.....

If you were blue knit fabric where would you be?

Groovy Party

Crochet Top: Victoria's Secret
Earl Jeans: Winners
Necklace: F21
Feather Earrings: Self Made
Scarf: Ardene
Wedges: Spring

Above are my friend Melissa and I at a work party to celebrate such a successful summer season, the theme was 60's. Coincidently I was so busy planning my fall wardrobe challenge I almost forgot all about it!

Melissa thrifted her amazing crochet dress quite a few years ago, and thanks to a friend of hers was convinced not to change the fabulous orange color. This party was a lot of fun and included a hula hoop contest, a word challenge where words from the 60's had to be described and a idol competition where people had to sing to The Archies and could be any of the Archie characters including the dog, which someone did and it was fabulous!

All Fair With Red Hair

Tank: Bedo
BCBG Shorts: Gift from Natasha
Bangles: Ten Thousand Villages
Sandals: Aldo

These shots were really about the new hair color. I can't even tell you how happy I am to be a red head again..... I've had a lot of fun with my hair lately, firstly chopping 12+ inches off and now a fun color as well makes life grand.....

Until I went to update the software for my Blackberry for the first time ever (I got my phone in December 2008), you should of seen the list of updates.... Well apparently updating you're phone means losing your entire address book. Not kidding. Its all gone... So I phone Bell tech support and the chick tells me I should of been backing up my stuff and that I should take this as a life lesson. I kid you not, the chic actually said that to me. The funny part about this all was that she was the nicest person I've probably ever talked to at this company. I'm waiting for the new Iphone and I'm leaving these mean tech support people behind.... This also prompted the beau to say he would be happy to take me shoe shopping to make me feel better, I actually turned him down not wanting to make a bigger deal out of it than it already was....

Needless to say, with all of this sewing was not accomplished tonight. This does not get me off to a great start for my projects..... I guess there's always tomorrow.....

How about that awesome polish color on my toes?

Fall Wardrobe Challenge

Okay, here are the final eight pieces I decided on. Its going to be eight pieces in eight weeks, done for Thanks Giving Monday (Canadian Thanks Giving). This may be a rather far fetched goal but if you don't push yourself you will never know. So here goes nothing....

I would like to stress that these sketches were done very quickly, the only point in them being that I had a visual to motivate me! My list of pieces were simply to add to my wardrobe, not eight pieces to make and mix and match only amongst them. The pieces are as follows:

Issey Miyake V1052: Jacket
Lace with Sequins Skirt - Pattern to be drafted
Dress: Pattern to be drafted
Jacket: McCalls M5480
Blouse V8696
Red Skinny Pants: Will be altering a pants pattern I had previously drafted
Knit Dress: Altering knit top pattern
Knit Top: Knit top pattern I had previously drafted

I think eight pieces may be a fair bit to do, but it was hard enough to narrow it down to just eight. If there's one thing I've realized with this challenge, its just how many other things I want to make! I will also point out all the fabric I will be using is from my stash, and it wasn't hard. It doesn't even seem as though this will even put a dent in my stash.....

Stay Tuned....

Total Rock Star

Hat: Hat Vendor at Calgary Stampede
Leather Jacket: Florence Leather Market
Button up shirt: Zara
Fringe Skirt: F21
Tights: Winners
Boots: The Shoe Company
Necklace: Walmart

So I had wanted to have my Fall Wardrobe Challenge all decided for a post today, but I have company and its just not going to happen. Hopefully this weekend, because otherwise this challenge is not off to a good start!

Now as for the title of this post, when I was at work the other day one of the guys I ran into said "You look like a rock star!" I thought this was a pretty fun outfit already, but I certainly appreciated the comment..... Over the years I've always enjoyed a guys perspective and their thoughts when it comes to girls clothing can be quite entertaining.

I also thought this was a fun, pre fall outfit since it was quite cool and I got to wear tights, bring on fall fashion!

Knits Are Fun

Knit Top: Self Made
Skirt: Suzy Shier
Oxfords: Spring
Necklace: Thrifted

Yep, here's my awesome thrifted necklace again..... I really do love it.
This is a knit top I made in my knits class, yes its a pretty plain top but I can't tell you how hard it is for me to find a well fitted knit top that is wide enough in the shoulders, but fitted enough through my waist not to mention long enough in the torso!!!!

The close up of the sleeve is to show one of the finishes I used. Once I folded up my hem and then flipped it up to the right side, I ran the edge where you see the serging through my serger with the blade taken off. Then once I flipped the hem back down I tugged gently all the way around so on the right side of the fabric there are tiny vertical stitches all the way around from the hem. A simple technique I had never tried before and quite liked the finished look of.

I think I'll be using this knit top pattern in my Fall Wardrobe Challenge to make a knit top and extend it to make a simple knit dress out of some fabulous fabric I've been wondering what to do with. I'm also needing some shirt ideas so I'm hoping that going through my stash will bring up some fun ideas.

Full Skirted

Silk Blouse: Gift from Natasha
Skirt: Thrifted
Belt: ?
Shoes: The Shoe Company
Necklace: Made by my sister Kayleigh

This fabulous silk blouse is from Natasha, she even dyed it purple and I love it sooooo much! She gave me 3! Each different colors, I'm feeling as though they will definitely be fall wardrobe staples. This skirt I thifted recently and thoroughly enjoyed wearing on my maiden voyage out, I will be taking it in a little bit though as I liked it sitting higher up on my waist. Check out the famous portraits printed on the fabric and the sequins in different colors!
I've been apprehensive about wearing heels too much, especially all day at work as I'm worried I'll injure myself again and end up gimpy for the whole winter (Its all gravel and dirt roads where I work). I've never considered terrain much of a deterrent when it came to footwear before but after the recovery time this injury has caused I'm playing it safe. I ran a short distance the other day though and feel as though I'm almost 100% so I will enjoy busting out the heels for the next time I wear this skirt.

I'm still working hard on fall wardrobe ideas! I would love to hear what your coveted items for fall will be!

Thrifted Bling

Striped Top: Joe Fresh
Skirt: Joe Fresh
BCBG Necklace: Thrifted
Tie sandals: Random store in Rome

I'm still crazy for this necklace I thrifted recently, especially with this outfit because it pulls the whole thing together! Yay bling.

Going back to the Fall Wardrobe Challenge I mentioned yesterday, I'm currently sketching out ideas and going through my fabric stash for more inspiration. Today I was going through my September issue of Flare and just loving every single page! Its going to be hard to narrow down my choices regarding what to make. Hopefully I'll have figured out what I want to make and with what for the weekend so I can start, however I have company arriving Thursday so this will not help me be productive. I'm thinking I will probably set a deadline of mid October for it to be done but we'll see about that. I work better with deadlines but I want to be realistic and not setting myself up for failure....

I'm wondering if I have perhaps encouraged anyone out there to join me in their own version of a fall wardrobe challenge? I was even thinking for those of you out there that are more DIY types and like to thrift this would be a good chance for you to do this yourself. You could make a list of things you want and then make little projects out of your finds to make your own fall wardrobe based on what you're going for. Just a thought....

Polka Dot Happy

Nine West Top: Thrifted
Polka Dot Pants: Suzy Shier
Bead Braid Necklace: Sears
Sandals: Aldo

I love polka dots, so I was very excited about these pants when Natasha and I came across them on our girls weekend. I'm loving all the polka dots in the Flare Fall Trend Report also, its all very inspiring and I'm hoping this means I'll be finding some great polka dot fabric!

These pants are very light and were great for my summer day, I also enjoyed this outfit because I was mixing prints! Yay!

This year for fall I've decided to take the plunge. Every year before fall I think about how great it would be to do a little fall wardrobe of my own, this also happens in the Spring. This year I'm making it happen, I've decided that if I don't do it after 2 years of schooling when would I ever do it? I'm setting some guidelines for myself, a deadline, pieces I want to make and etc. Now given the size of my fabric stash I think I can do this using stuff I already have, so $$$ spent will be minimal.

I would love to hear any (positive) input/suggestions about this fall wardrobe challenge I'm doing!

Stay tuned!

Playing Around

Sequin Jacket: The Gap
Knit Top: F21
Skirt: Roberto Cavalli
Wedges: Aldo
Earrings: Gift from Natasha

I had a lot of fun in the park taking these photos! For once there was no kids so it was safe from parents stares wondering what in the world I was doing. By the end I noticed I did have an audience from a nearby house which was quite funny.

Ever since I got these wedges I've been wanting to wear them with this skirt! Stupid me for falling in a hole and twisting my ankle so badly I've been literally grounded for the past two months. Yes I hurt it that bad I've had to go to physio! Plus, with snowboarding season less than 3 months away I don't want to risk making things worse.

This sequin jacket was a fabulous find from the girls weekend with Natasha, anything with sequins is fantastic as far as I'm concerned! Yay sequins!

Have a fabulous weekend!

Loudest Pants Ever

Denim jacket: Zara
Zara top: Thrifted
Pants: Self made
BCBG Necklace: Thrifted
Sandals: Aldo
Purse: Winners
Bangles: Suzy Shier & Ten Thousand Villages

These pants are a mock up I made recently, but they turned out so I'm wearing them for real. I was hoping it would happen this way since I love this fabric a lot! All I did was take my basic pant block, add some ease, lower the waistband, adjust the leg length and then insert an area at the waistband and hem for a drawstring. I'm also going to do a version with pleats at the waist instead of the drawstring and do more of a peg leg with a cuff which I'm looking forward to working on.

I asked the beau what he thought about my pants and this is what I got "those are the loudest pants I've ever seen!"

My mum took these photos while I was visiting her and pointed out that the print of the fabric looked like a clamatis, hence the close up photo of me holding the flower by my pants. I think she said it was called a clamatis? I'm hopeless when it comes to flowers....

Meanwhile, check out this amazing necklace I thrifted, isn't it fabulous! I got this on my girls weekend with Natasha, and while I did find quite a few things I think this necklace is by far my favorite find!
